After many years of customers nagging, begging, and practically crying about private show… I’ve given in. Last year I was on the road a lot and have realized something… this industry has changed tremendously!
Years ago if a dancer was rude, inconsiderate, provided “extras” etc… then she who have heard all about if from other dancers. Not anymore though. It seems like across the country the dancers have almost become 50% to 50%, with one half providing extras while the other half (clean dancers like myself) struggle to compete. Don’t get me wrong, I can still oversell most dancers in any club… I’ve always been a top earner. However, the small clubs are being bought up by chains and the house fees and percentages paid on dances keep rising while the average dance price has stayed the same for over 10 years. What does this mean? I pay out higher commissions to the clubs who are trying to makeup for the loss in revenue from customers coming in the door, and at the same time losing money to dancers who are providing extras… both of which are often due to the recession.
Now, on top of this the level of violence and crime in the clubs in also rising. When I first started I had my curling iron stolen in the dressing room. I’ve had three other curling irons stolen since then, plus clothes and shoes right out of my dance bag. A lot of clubs won’t offer you a locker when you are new, so you are basically working out of a bag. These days I have a roller back with a lock on it. So while I can keep the dancers from stealing from me they will always find some way to steal from others, pester them, or just be mean in general. Last year myself and another agency entertainer had a house dancer dump some sort of liquid on our bags… which were feet away from each other in the dressing room. Obviously the liquid had been dumped on purpose. Where there’s a will there’s a way. In january I had an encounter with a group of house dancers who were making some pretty large assumptions about me, and the leader of their pack was drunk and totally high off drugs. When things got nasty I left. Which reminds me ladies, if you ever have a question about a club, feel free to contact me!
There have always been the worry from families about women getting into the dance industry. Many of the problems though were few and far between. They are getting more common though and worse. Many of you may recall the dancer, Roberta Busby, that had been set on fire byRianne Theriault-Odom. Roberta was lucky to live through what happened, but she still has three children to raise. I think the problem comes from a few places, but one is simply competition because we all have to survive – which means making money.
At any rate, I’ve decided that it’s time to not have to compete so much against all of the dancers that perform extras inside the club and to not have to be scooped in so often to the competition and drama within the gentlemen’s clubs. I still enjoy true gentlemen’s clubs, but they are becoming far and few between. So, I am branching out and offering private striptease within Denver, Colorado. That’s right, I’m now going to be a private Denver stripper as well. That means appointments can be 1-on-1!
